, has heard me talk about my mentor, michael callahan. taught me in high school, helped me with money as i was going to law school. and he was on a pension. he was a disabled veteran. he was just such a good friend of mine. he and senator inouye were friends. they talked about what it's like to not have a limb. callahan's was a leg. inouye's was an arm. and they talked and they were friends. michael callahan worked back here as an aide to senators in summers and got to know senator inouye. my thoughts are with his family, including his wife irene, his son ken, their daughter mancheska, a stepdaughter jennifer and a granddaughter maggie, named after, of course, his first wife. their loss is the nation's loss. last night, we lost a noble soul. dan inouye lived a long and productive life. still i speak for dan's senate family when i say we're devastated by his passing. but we will all miss him. his legacy will live in the halls of the senate and the state of hawaii as long as history is written. his place in the history books will not fade. as the second-longest serving senator in our hi

in that community and elsewhere outraged. attorney and policy advisor michael barns joins me from washington to explain. good morning to you. >> good morning. >> gretchen: first of all, is this even legal for a newspaper to -- i know it's legal for them to get the public record information of who is license to do own a gun, but is it legal for them to post it for everybody else to see? >> the newspaper has the legal right to do so, but that doesn't mean that it is right to do so. in fact, i think that the newspaper's actions were very divisive as part of this community and also dangerous. publication of these names and addresses of individuals who possess guns gives them a list to any criminal of the houses who have guns in case they want to find a low security environment in which to go and steal weapons. new york has a problem with terrorist cells. so we also know which houses don't have guns. this is a severe danger to the community that this newspaper has brought about. >> gretchen: like i'm thinking, let's say now that somebody goes to rob one of these homes that they know they don't ha

're getting holiday apologies from idaho republican senator michael crapo after he was arrested and charged with dui just outside of washington, d.c. arlington, virginia police said senator crapo was stopped after running a red light early sunday morning. he was arrested after failing a sobriety test. senator crapo released a statement apologizing for the incident saying in part, quote, i accept total responsibility and will deal with whatever penalty comes my way in this matter. i will also undertake measures to insure this circumstance is it never repeated. senator crapo is do due in court, january 4th, gregg. gregg: we're watching a situation with president h.w. bush this morning as we're awaiting for his release from a houston hospital. the 88-year-old president is undergoing treatment for a bronchitis related cough for over a month. last week his doctors said they hoped to have him home for the holidays. they since decided to hold off on final release date until the president, quote, built up all his energy. we certainly wish him well. heather: hope he does that soon and able to get ho
